Why Do Writers Abandon Novels?

Why do writers abandon unfinished novels? Check out this very interesting article on NYTimes.com.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on the article, it was very interesting indeed. I love reading stuff like this.

I see that you have a post mentioning a paris review interview. I've devoured the first two of those books. It can be very heartening to hear that these awesome writers have such difficulties (and not b/c of schadenfreude). To know that as I, for instance, feel I'm going to have to cut a huge chunk, that other established writers have done the same and wrestled with it (over and over again). Great writing can seem so effortless on the page that it's nice to be reminded that it took hard work for them to get it that way.

  2. I'm assuming the two books are compilations of Paris Review Interviews. Can't get enough of those! In total agreement with you...we need to be reminded that writing is pretty much the same for everybody...we all have our good and bad days.
